Albemarle - Charlottesville Regional Jail breaks ground on their renovation and modernization project. Downey & Scott attended the December 11, 2025, groundbreaking for the Albemarle–Charlottesville Regional Jail Renovation and Modernization Project. This $49 million project is intended to bring the facility into compliance with current ADA standards and modernize operations to enhance safety and mental health support for inmates.

The renovation will include a new lobby, outdoor recreation areas, a visitors’ area,  beds designed specifically for individuals with mental health needs, and additional private rooms to support both inmates and staff. Construction is underway, with completion anticipated in October 2027.

Downey & Scott is providing construction management services for this project. The facility was designed by Moseley and will be constructed by English Construction
