Hal & Berni Hanson Memorial Regional Park

Downey & Scott performed cost estimating services for the Hal & Berni Hanson Regional Park, spread across 257 acres, which is nestled in the southeastern part of Loudoun County. The land was formerly owned by Haldore 'Hal' Hanson, a prominent writer, U.S. State Department official, and leader in the nonprofit sector, who passed away in 1992. Honoring the wishes of Hal and his wife Berni, the Hanson Family Partnership agreed to transfer ownership of the land exclusively to Loudoun County with the stipulation that it be utilized for park development.

The park has a variety of amenities designed for a diverse range of recreational activities. These include baseball and soccer fields, a cricket pitch, tennis courts, and sports lighting. The fields feature both natural sod and artificial turf, and spectators can enjoy the game from bleachers while watching the scoreboards. Other sports-related features include batting cages and a disc golf course. The park also houses an administrative office building, a nature center, a lodge, maintenance facilities, and the renovated Hanson House. Concession stands and restrooms are strategically placed for convenience. For relaxation and group gatherings, the park offers picnic shelters, benches, and an amphitheater. Children enjoy its playground with a rubberized surface, and pet owners appreciate the designated dog park. For additional outdoor activities, the park includes walking trails, fishing docks, and a bike rack.
