Downey & Scott performed cost estimating services for a 91,969 GSF renovation and 32,350 GSF addition on a 13-acre site in Fairfax County originally constructed in 1967. Demolition included removing sidewalks and an asphalt court to allow for a new basketball court, loading dock, playground, and building addition. The site work estimate was $2,910,148; the renovation estimate was $24,093,876; and the new construction estimate was $14,754,863—for a total of $41,758,887. Renovation scope also included installation of LED lighting with advanced controls, a new energy-efficient HVAC system with updated controls, and life safety upgrades consisting of a new fire alarm system, fire sprinkler system, and generator. The project required constructing new additions and renovating existing spaces while the school remained in operation.
